A 5-match T20 series is to be played between India and England. The first match of which will be played on 21 January at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. With this match, India’s star bowler Mohammed Shami will return to Team India after 14 months. Shami had to undergo ankle surgery in early 2024. His knees were swollen during recovery after the surgery, which further delayed his return. During this time, Shami worked hard to recover from injuries and proved his fitness by returning to domestic cricket.
Mohammed Shami never gave up on his injury and improved his game by participating in domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. During these 14 months, Shami worked hard to return to Team India and did not lose his confidence, which has now become an inspiration for the youth. Meanwhile, Shami shared the process of recovering from injury with the youth.
Inspiration for young players
At an event organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal, Mohammed Shami said that the passion to play for the country should never end. Shami said that he always felt that he has played less matches for India and if he stops playing cricket, he will not get a chance again. He further said that it has never happened that a player representing a country has thought of quitting the game due to injury.
Mohammed Shami said, “The hunger to play for the country should never end. If you love it, you will always keep fighting back, even if you get injured 10 times.”
Mohammed Shami further said, “It has never happened that the players representing their state or country have thought of quitting the game after injury. Whenever we get injured, there is only one thought in our mind – when can we come back?”
Shami’s flair will be seen in international cricket
Due to injuries, Mohammed Shami could not go on the Australia tour for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as the National Cricket Academy did not give him fitness clearance. However, now he is fully fit and is ready to spread his flair in the T20 and ODI series against England. After this, Shami will also be a part of Team India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
