The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 18-member Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last Friday (25 October). Fast bowler Mohammed Shami missed out on a place in Team India for this series to be played on the Australia tour. Now the question arises as to why Shami did not get a place in the five-match Test series to be played against Australia.
Why did Shami not get a place in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?
The Indian team is currently playing a three-match Test series against New Zealand. Before this series, captain Rohit Sharma gave an update on Shami’s injury and said that Shami, who is recovering from a heel injury, has got swelling in his knee, due to which he could not be a part of Team India in the New Zealand series.
It is being speculated that due to knee swelling, Shami could not even get a place in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, no information was shared by the BCCI as to why Shami was not included in Team India for the series to be played in Australia.

Apart from this, pace bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been made a part of the Test team for the first time.
