A unique wedding procession was seen in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. There was no elephant, no horse and no cart in this wedding procession, but the baraatis reached the bride’s house by sitting on a boat. At present, Maharajganj district is flooded. Due to this, the only means left for the baraatis to take the wedding procession was the boat. Then the baraatis and the groom reached the bride’s house by sitting in the boat and risking their lives.
This case of bringing a unique wedding procession is of Semrahwa village of Nautanwa tehsil area. The daughter of Baijnath Yadav, a resident of Semrahwa, got married on July 9. Semrahwa village is surrounded by the forest of Sohagi Barwa Wildlife Division on one side and the Rohin and Baghela rivers on three sides. The population of this village is more than six thousand. The only means of coming and going in the village is a boat.
The wedding procession reached by sitting in a boat
Baby Yadav, daughter of Baijnath Yadav of Semrahwa village, was married to Vijay Yadav, son of Hariram Yadav of Bairwa Bankatwa village. The wedding procession left for Semrahwa from their residence on the night of 9th July. The wedding procession could not cross the river due to flooding in the Rohin river.
The wedding procession members parked their vehicles on the river bank and crossed the river by boat carrying the luggage on their heads. On reaching the bride’s house, the wedding procession members were welcomed and other wedding rituals were completed. The wedding procession departed on the morning of 10th July. The wedding procession members then crossed the river by boat carrying the luggage on their heads.
They had to face trouble due to lack of a bridge
The wedding procession members say that they were afraid of drowning in the river while sitting in the boat with the luggage. On 10th July at 11 am, the bride and groom reached the ghat on foot to cross the river. The newlywed couple crossed the river while avoiding the excessive slippery surface due to rain. The women who accompanied them said that due to lack of a bridge on the river, they faced a lot of trouble in sending off their daughter.
