The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for head coach. The current head coach of the Indian men’s senior team is Rahul Dravid, whose tenure will end after the T20 World Cup to be hosted by America and West Indies in June. After Rahul Dravid, Team India can get a new head coach, the process for which has been started.
BCCI released advertisements for head coach candidates late on Monday (May 13) night. Candidates will be able to apply for the post till 6 pm on Monday, May 27. The selection process for coaches will be through review of applications, followed by personal interview and evaluation of shortlisted candidates.
What should be the qualification to apply?
BCCI has set some qualifications and conditions for the candidates applying for head coach and they are as follows-
- Have experience of playing at least 30 Test or 50 ODI matches.
- Must have been the head coach of a full member test playing nation for at least two years.
- Must have been an Associate Member or Head Coach of an IPL team or its equivalent International League or First Class team or National A team for at least 3 years.
- Must have BCCI Level 3 or equivalent certification.
- Age should be less than 60 years.
How long will be the tenure of the new coach?
Let us tell you that the tenure of the new head coach of Team India will start from July 1, 2024, which will last till December 31, 2027. During the tenure of the new head coach, Team India will play a total of 5 ICC trophies, which include Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and 2 cycles of World Test Championship.
When did Rahul Dravid become the head coach?
Rahul Dravid became the head coach of the senior men’s Indian cricket team in November 2021. Rahul Dravid’s tenure had ended after the ODI World Cup played in 2023, but BCCI had extended the tenure for a few days. Along with Rahul Dravid, the tenure of other members of the coaching staff was extended, which includes batting coach Vikram Rathod, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. As BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had told that Rahul Dravid can apply again for the position of head coach.
