Gorakhpur. The girl, resident of Azamgarh district, was gang-raped. Sahjanwa police station and crime branch team arrested an accused resident of Sant Kabir Nagar district in an encounter on Saturday morning. The accused, who was injured by a bullet in his right leg, has been admitted to BRD Medical College.
SP North Jitendra Kumar Srivastava said that a 20-year-old girl, resident of Jeyanpur area of Azamgarh, left the house in anger around 7 am on Thursday. The family members were searching for her when on the way the girl found Tahir Ali, a resident of Tubel Colony, Motinagar in Sant Kabirnagar district. On the pretext of getting her a job, Tahir made the girl sit in a bus and brought her to Gorakhpur Road.

The young man fed some intoxicants at night. After that, he called one of his friends and took the girl to the forest on the banks of the river in Sahjanwa area and raped her. In the morning, the victim girl reached the neighboring village and informed the local people about the incident. There were injury marks on the girl’s body.
When Sahjanwa police station came to know about the matter, they brought the girl to the police station and informed her relatives. On the basis of the complaint, a case of gang rape was registered and the search for the accused was going on. With the help of surveillance, Crime Branch and Sahjanwa police station surrounded the main accused Tahir in Sahjanwa area on Saturday morning.
He fired at the police team and started running away. In retaliation, he was shot in his right leg, after which the police arrested him and admitted him to BRD Medical College. A 315 bore pistol, three cartridge shells and one live cartridge have been recovered from Tahir. The search is on for the second accused involved in the incident.
