Team India has been announced for the first two matches of the 5-match Test series against England, but the squad for the last three matches is to be selected after about three weeks. The performance of the players in the first two matches and their good performance in the Ranji Trophy being played during this period will be the basis of this selection. Although, there is no possibility of much change in the bowling line-up of Team India, but some veteran players can definitely make an impact in batting.
Cheteshwar Pujara has recently raised hopes of his comeback by scoring a double century in Ranji Trophy. He is continuously performing well in domestic cricket. Along with this, Mayank Agarwal has also returned to form in the red ball game by scoring a century in Ranji. If both these players play similar big innings in the next few matches, then they can strengthen their claim for the last three Test matches against England.
Mayank’s century innings
Mayank Agarwal is the captain of Karnataka. He scored a wonderful century against Gujarat on Saturday. He played an innings of 109 runs in 124 balls. Due to this innings of Mayank, Karnataka team is moving towards a big lead in this match being played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Here Gujarat had scored 264 runs in the first innings, in reply, by the end of the second day’s play, Karnataka team had scored 328 runs after losing 5 wickets.
Mayank had returned to the pavilion on zero in both the innings against Punjab in the last Ranji match. In such a situation, this innings will be a boost to enthusiasm and excitement for him. Mayank has been out of Team India’s Test squad for a long time. He last played a Test match in March 2022. He had to be dropped from the team after continuous poor performance in Test cricket.
Made international debut in Boxing Day Test
Mayank started his international career with his Test debut. He made his international debut with the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne in December 2018. He has played 21 test matches so far in his career. Here he scored 1488 runs at an average of 41.33. During this period he also played 10 big innings. He scored 4 centuries and scored 6 half-centuries. Mayank also got a chance to play One Day International in his career. However, he flopped miserably in this format. In 5 ODI matches, he could score only 86 runs at an average of 17.20.
