Unnao. In the review of the month of November, Unnao Police, which claimed to be the best in the state in redressal of IGS complaints, was exposed on Wednesday. Dalit Srichandra and his family, resident of Bhulemau village of Purva, were harassed so much by the police that he was forced to commit suicide. Srichandra, who was struggling between life and death, told that he bowed his head at the doorstep of every senior police officer, from the CM to the senior police officer, lodged a complaint on IGRS, but the police gave a vague report and forced him to commit suicide.
Srichandra alleged that CO Purva Deepak Singh took the money and pushed him to death by fully supporting the opposition. From the SP office to the district hospital, Srichandra repeatedly blamed CO Purva. In the district hospital, he asked Sadar Kotwal Pramod Mishra to talk to brother Phoolchandra, who lives in Punjab, on video call. When the conversation happened, on seeing his brother’s face, he screamed, “Brother, I will not survive, if I die, then Purva CO and All other officers will be there. Don’t leave anyone. Said, is bribe more valuable than human life? After listening to him, the elder brother started crying bitterly after seeing his condition.
Police wrote cross case after five days
Elder brother Moolchandra told that the Purva police has met the opposition. Five days after CO Purva took the money from the opposition, a case was filed against him and brother Srichandra and other family members after taking a complaint from the woman from the opposition. Not only this, the names of those who attacked him with an ax were taken away with money. In the name of arrest, one was issued a challan for disturbing the peace. Instead of action, CO Purva was pressurizing for reconciliation.
Captain hasn’t come, call him
Even after setting the fire, Srichandra was angry towards the police. As soon as the doctor came forward to treat him, he would scream, don’t treat me. Call the captain first. I will get treatment only after the captain arrives. ASP Akhilesh Singh reached the hospital in place of Captain Siddharth Shankar Meena, who was on leave for three days. He kept saying again and again how my face was, how it has become now. All this has happened because of the police.
Srichandra entered from the back gate instead of the main gate
The complainants coming to the SP office gate are first entered in the register. After this they are given entry. Srichandra had come many times before with complaints. When the hearing did not take place, he entered the SP office from the back gate on Wednesday afternoon carrying kerosene in a bottle. The CO reached outside the cabin of the city and quickly poured kerosene on himself, lit a matchstick and set himself on fire. Seeing it burning, ASP Akhilesh Singh and CO City Ashutosh came out of the cabin and started trying to save it.
Checked the register and saw the incident site.
After getting information about the incident, IG Tarun Gaba reached the SP office at 3 pm. Along with ASP and CO City, first saw the incident spot and then reached the main gate and saw the entry register of the complainants. Inspector Santosh Ratnakar present there told that apart from him, five constables are present at the gate. Who checks the complaints. Srichandra came inside from the back gate.
IG saw Sahan, took information from relatives
The IG, who reached Purva from the SP office, saw the Sahan on which Srichandra is having a dispute with the Muslim side. Nephew Mahendra and father Ram Swaroop also repeated the same allegations which the arsonist Srichandra had leveled against CO Purva and Unnao Police. The IG assured to re-investigate the case and take action against the culprits. He also took point-wise information about the matter from CO Purva Deepak Singh.
Disputed land case has been going on for 33 years
Victim Srichandra’s father Ram Swaroop told that in 1985 he had bought the house of neighbor Ghaseete Ali. In front of the house itself, other relatives of the victim are claiming their rights. In 1990, the case regarding the said land is going on in the court. Told that the court decision has come in our favor once or twice. But people from the Muslim side appealed again. The case on which is still going on. Told that the hearing date has been fixed for January 3, in which the decision is expected.
Relatives reached KGMU
Nephew Mahendra told that at around 11 am on Wednesday morning, Srichandra had gone to the SP office on bike to complain about CO Purva. No one knows how Srichandra set fire there. After getting the information after the call from the SP office, the entire family has left for Lucknow KGMU.
Complaint letter given seven times to SP and twice to Lucknow
Nephew Mahendra told that complaints were made seven times to the SP by the local police and CO about saving the accused during the investigation, but no hearing was held. Complaint was also made to the ADG twice. There are allegations that the CO excluded the main accused Anish from the case. Hurt by this, Srichandra took this step.
Having to risk one’s life for justice: Udayraj
Former SP MLA Udayraj Yadav reached the medical college of Srichandra, who set the fire, to inquire about his well-being. He assured help to the victim’s family. Udayraj told that Srichandra was a supporter of SP. Today’s incident has exposed the law and order system of the government. The victim now has to risk her life to get justice.
Wife in distress, family in shock
Srichandra is the youngest among five brothers. Elder brothers are Keshanchandra, Harishchandra, Phoolchandra, Moolchandra. Father Ram Swaroop, mother Rajeshwari, wife Sandhya and seven year old son Shreyansh. Srichandra used to work as a jeweler in a rented shop in the town about two years ago. Presently he does business of buying and selling wood. His wife and child are in distress due to him setting fire. Apart from the mother and father, other families kept crying and demanding action against the guilty police officers.
Recent incidents of self-immolation
April 12: 58-year-old Vijayshankar Agnihotri poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire after his neighbor Ramesh had taken over the land and constructed a house in Pawai village of Makhi. It was alleged that even after filing a complaint with the police, no action was taken. Later Vijayshankar died.
April 26: Anand Mishra, a resident of Ranagadhi, Makhi, accused Safipur MLA Bambalal of harassing him and threatened to kill him. When the police registered a case, he went to Lucknow and set himself on fire. He died during treatment. Similarly, on April 6, 30-year-old Kishan Jaiswal, resident of Dak Tar Colony, Gangaghat area, had set himself on fire on the upper floor of his house. He died during treatment.
12 December: Virendra was burnt to death due to a land dispute in Sohramau area. He died during treatment.
