Agra. Metro’s Jama Masjid station will be renamed. Inaugurating the high-speed trial run of Metro in Agra on Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke about the commencement of Metro service on a six km long track from Taj East Gate to Man:Kameshwar station from February 2024.
It is certain to change the name of Jama Masjid station after the Chief Minister took the name of Man: Kameshwar. The underground metro station is being constructed by the UP Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) at the power house intersection. The station has been named Jama Masjid station due to its proximity to Jama Masjid.
There has been a demand for a long time to change this. Several representations were given by Ambedkar followers to name Jama Masjid station after Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. There was a demand by the residents to name the station after Man:Kameshwar Temple.
Ravi Dubey of Abhiyaan Foundation had also made this demand to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during his visit to Mathura on May 8. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took the name of Man: Kameshwar instead of Jama Masjid Metro station in his speech. After the Chief Minister called Man: Kameshwar station, a round of reactions started in the city. Some appreciated it while some protested.
Will present bangles to the MLA
Ashish Prince, president of Dr. Ambedkar follower Ekta Foundation, reacted sharply to the renaming of the metro station. He said that the organization had been demanding to change the name of Metro’s Jama Masjid station after Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar for a year. If this does not happen, the effigies of Scheduled Caste MLAs, MPs and ministers sitting in the government will be burnt. Cantonment MLA Dr. GS Dharmesh will be presented with bangles and ornaments. India will be closed.
