New Delhi. The sports science and medicine team of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is leaving no stone unturned to make a comeback to Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the ODI World Cup, but no one can say with certainty that he will be fit for next month’s three matches. Will be fully fit for T20.
Bumrah will be able to play all the matches
It will be difficult to say whether India’s fast bowler Bumrah will be able to play all the three matches even if he recovers for the series against Ireland (Ind vs Ire) starting from 18th August. Bumrah is currently at the NCA in Bengaluru for a rehab session following his lower back surgery.
Back before the World Cup
However, the NCA aims to get Bumrah back before the ICC World Cup 2023 (ODI World Cup 2023). He would like Bumrah to play in the T20 series against Ireland. A BCCI source told PTI that there used to be an unwritten rule that if someone comes back from a long break due to injury, he has to play a few domestic tournaments to prove his fitness.
Bumrah not fully fit?
The NCA and the selection committee have exempted Bumrah from all this as he is not part of the West Zone squad for the Deodhar Trophy matches. This also means that he is not fully match fit yet, otherwise he could have played one Deodhar Trophy match. The squad for the Ireland T20 is likely to be announced a few days later, giving Bumrah every chance to make a comeback.
Report will be handed over to Ajit Agarkar-
Before the series against Ireland, the NCA physio will hand over the fitness reports of all the players to Ajit Agarkar, chairman of the selection committee. If the physio’s report says that apart from bowling four overs, Bumrah can also field in 16 overs. Also, he can play in 40 overs as well, so Bumrah’s selection is certain.
