Meerut: After midnight on Sunday, at 2.40 am, an under-construction rapid rail slab fell at the Shopricks Mall intersection, in which eight laborers were buried. He was pulled out with great difficulty. The condition of three of them is serious. The ambulance arrived after about half an hour and took the injured to KMC Hospital.
During the night, the work of making slabs for Shatabdi Nagar station was going on. Workers were tying the iron structure before casting the slab between the two pillars. The crane was delivering rebars over the structure when the iron structure from the upper part got entangled and the entire slab fell. In the silence of the night, there was a scream as soon as the slab fell with a loud sound.
During this, eight laborers working fell from a height of 35 feet along with the iron frame. Eight have suffered serious injuries in the accident. Two were completely covered in mud. On information, the police phantom reached at 3 o’clock and then after that at around 3.15 o’clock the injured were sent to the hospital by ambulance.
The work of tying the slab was being done at night, so there was no loss of life. This is the busiest intersection of the city, yet the work was being done without stopping the way below it.
