Gonda: BJP MP from Kaiserganj and outgoing Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Sunday said that if Narendra Modi had been the prime minister in 1971, he would have freed the land that was grabbed by Pakistan in 1947 and China in 1962. Addressing a huge gathering at Balapur in the district, Singh started his 23-minute speech with Urdu poetry and ended it with a couplet from Ramcharitmanas. The BJP leader said, “In 1947, when the Congress was in power, the partition of the country took place, the wound of which is yet to heal. When Congress was in power, 78,000 square kilometers of land was grabbed by Pakistan. In 1962, when the Congress was in power, China attacked us and grabbed 33,000 square kilometers of land.
‘Congress massacred Sikhs in anti-Sikh riots’
He said, “In an unprecedented incident in 1971, 92,000 Pakistani soldiers were taken as prisoners of war by the Indian Army, but the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi released them without settling old scores. If there was a prime minister like Modi, the occupied land would have been freed.” Accusing the Congress of imposing Emergency in the country in 1975, BJP leader Singh said, “The Congress massacred Sikhs in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. In his address, he said, “Initially we used to raise the demand that where the sacrifice (Syama Prasad) Mukherjee took place, that Kashmir is ours. We proudly repeat this even today and it has been possible because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.” However, the Wrestling Federation of India chief did not mention the wrestlers anywhere in his 23-minute speech.
Players are accusing Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment
It is noteworthy that on June 2, the district administration of Ayodhya had denied permission to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused in the sexual assault case, to organize a rally on June 5. Singh, however, had said that the Jan Chetna Maharally to be held at Ram Katha Park has been postponed for a few days due to the ongoing probe into the allegations of the wrestlers against him. In a post on Facebook, Singh had said, “My dear well-wishers, with your cooperation, I have served as a Lok Sabha member for the last 28 years. Whether in the ruling party or in the opposition, I have tried to unite people of all castes, communities and religions. That is why my political rivals and their parties have leveled false allegations against me.
Sports Minister assured justice to the players
Singh had said, “In the present situation, some political parties are trying to disturb social harmony by promoting regionalism and caste conflict.” Prominent wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik have accused Singh of sexual harassment and have been protesting since April 23. However, on June 8, the father of a minor wrestler said that he had deliberately made a false police complaint against Singh. The Delhi Police probing the sexual assault case has recorded statements of over 200 people and will file a chargesheet on June 15, according to the assurance given by Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to the protesting wrestlers. The wrestlers have agreed to defer their protest till then.
