Lucknow: Deepak Ratan, a senior IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre posted as IG of CRPF, died of a heart attack on Monday.
On the complaint of chest pain, 50-year-old Deepak was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket, where doctors declared him brought dead. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences on the death of Deepak. Deepak’s IAS wife Kamini Chauhan Ratan is posted as Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Deepak, who went on central deputation in the year 2020, was posted as SSP to SSP and IG in various districts including Varanasi, Lucknow, Ghaziabad in the state.
Born in Bhopal and a graduate of Computer Science, Deepak Ratan was of a simple nature. Most of the people who met him, from the police department to the common people, were his admirers for his good functioning. There is a wave of mourning among the police and administrative officers due to the death of Deepak.
UP Police has also expressed condolences by tweeting. He was awarded more than a dozen medals including United Nations Medal, President’s Gallantry Medal, DGP’s Gold Commendation Disc for meritorious services.
Special DG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that this loss can never be supplied. Ghaziabad Commissioner Ajay Mishra has been specially sent to his residence in Delhi to express condolence on behalf of Police Headquarters.
A condolence meeting will also be organized at the police headquarters. No information has yet been given by the family about where his last rites will be held.
