Earlier, the government had issued provisional reservation on December 5 but several petitions were filed in the High Court. The High Court had rejected the government’s OBC reservation for giving reservation without adopting the triple test formula. As per the recommendations of the commission, the government again issued fresh provisional reservation after 115 days. Out of total 762 urban bodies, the case regarding formation of Municipal Council Siswa Bazar of Maharajganj and Nagar Panchayat Bhanpur of Basti and expansion of its boundary is under consideration in Supreme Court and High Court, therefore reservation has not been declared for these two.
The Urban Development Minister said that compared to the reservation of December 5, 22 in 17 municipal corporations, this time 11 seats have been affected. There are two posts for SC, four for OBC, six for women and eight for unreserved. There has been a change in the reservation of 100 seats in 199 Municipal Councils. There has been a reshuffle in the reservation of 269 seats in the seats of the president of 544 Nagar Panchayats. No change in OBC seats

Election notification may be issued in second week of April
The state government will issue the notification of final reservation of urban bodies by April 8 or 9 and hand over the list to the State Election Commission. Notification of provisional reservation of December 5 canceled
The state government has canceled the provisional notification issued on December 5, 2022 for the posts of mayor and president.
