New Delhi. Chennai Super Kings will play their first match in IPL 2023 against defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. CSK’s troubles have increased as skipper MS Dhoni has injured his left knee.
Suspense has been created on MS Dhoni playing in the first match, but the CEO of the team has brought relief to the fans by giving a big update. MS Dhoni felt pain in his left knee during the practice session in Chennai, due to which he did not take part in CSK’s training at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.
What did the CEO of CSK say
Speaking to PTI, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kashi Viswanathan said, “As far as I know, MS Dhoni is playing 100 percent. I don’t have any other information. If Dhoni does not play, then the CSK team can hand over the responsibility of the wicketkeeper to either Devon Conway or Ambati Rayudu as the franchise does not have a wicketkeeper of Dhoni’s level.
MS Dhoni usually works hard in pre-season training, but he does not do much training to conserve energy before the start of major tournaments. At Dhoni’s age, pain takes time to heal and can take a serious turn if it escalates. His injury may take longer time to heal.
With players having to travel a lot during IPL 2023, it is likely that Dhoni will not take the risk of playing so as to be available later in the tournament. However, Dhoni has not been in the habit of not playing matches. He has continued to play despite suffering from various ailments including back pain.
