Prayagraj: Mafia Atiq Ahmed, who left Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) in the custody of UP Police at 5.40 pm on Sunday evening, reached Prayagraj on Monday evening amid speculations and discussions. After completing the journey of about 1300 kilometers in less than 24 hours, the police reached Naini Central Jail at 5.25 pm with the mafia.
On Tuesday, he will be presented in the court at 11 am in the case of kidnapping of Umesh Pal, the witness of MLA Raju Pal murder case. Along with Atiq, the police also took his brother Ashraf, accused in the same case, from Bareilly Jail to Naini Jail at 6.58 a.m. after about one and a half hours.

Ateeq Ahmed and Ashraf are the main accused in the trial of Umesh Pal, who was abducted and beaten up on February 28, 2006 and threatened to change his testimony. In this case, after completion of the hearing in the MP-MLA court of Prayagraj, the date of decision has been fixed on March 28. An order was issued from the court to present all the accused including Atiq and Ashraf at the time of pronouncement of the verdict.
On the orders of the court, the police and STF team have brought Atiq from Gujarat and his brother Ashraf from Bareilly to Prayagraj. Atiq Ahmed’s medical test was done after being dropped from the police van inside Naini Jail.
30 hours journey in 23 hours 45 minutes
Adding stoppages at many places on the way, it was being estimated that it would take more than 30 hours to complete the distance from Ahmedabad to Prayagraj. Even after doing all this, the journey at high speed was completed in 23.45 hours. Atiq’s sister Ayesha from Ahmedabad also accompanied the police convoy along with the women of the family and the advocate.

An IPS officer was deputed to lead the police team that went to bring Atiq from Gujarat, with which, apart from two inspectors, a team of 40 armed constables moved from Gujarat and there were three vehicles. Two big police vans and a Bolero car in front.

The police team had to pass through four states Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and UP to bring Atiq. More than 15 districts fell on the way.

When the convoy was passing in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district on Monday morning, suddenly a cow came in front of the van in which Atiq was sitting on the way. The cow died after colliding with the van. However, there was no damage to the van. The police convoy stopped there for a moment, then moved on.
Family in the same jail, still will not be able to meet
Atiq’s son Ali is also in Naini Central Jail. He was sent to the high security barrack for security reasons. Atiq has been kept under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Ashraf is also in the high security barrack. Atiq’s family is in the same jail, but they will not be able to meet each other. Monitoring is also being done through cameras from Lucknow jail headquarters.
