New Delhi: The Indian women’s cricket team had a bang in the Super Six round of the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup. The Indian team led by Shefali Verma had entered the Super Six round by winning all their matches in the group stage.
The ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, which is being played in South Africa, started on Saturday. The Indian team had a very bad start here. In Group-1, India suffered a crushing seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia.
The Indian team accepted the invitation to bat first and were bowled out for just 87 runs in 18.5 overs. In reply, Australia achieved the target by losing three wickets in 13.5 overs. Australia’s Sienna Ginger took the most three wickets for 13 runs, but Millie Illingworth, who took two important wickets early on for 12 runs, was chosen as the player of the match.
South Africa win
In other matches of the day, South Africa beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets. Bangladesh won the toss and scored 106/6 in 20 overs, in response to which South Africa won by 5 wickets in 18.5 overs. Maddison Landsman of South Africa was selected as the player of the match for playing a crucial innings of 37 runs.
Ireland lost to England
In another match of the day, England scored 207/2 in 20 overs, in reply to which Ireland were bowled out for 86 in 16.5 overs. Grace Scrivens was adjudged player of the match for taking one wicket in addition to playing a smoky innings of 93 runs off 56 balls.
New Zealand win
New Zealand beat Rwanda by 4 wickets. Playing first, Rwanda scored 96/7 in 20 overs, in response to which New Zealand achieved the target by losing 6 wickets in 16.1 overs. Emma McLeod was adjudged player of the match for her blistering knock of 59 off 39 balls. In the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup on January 22, India will face Sri Lanka in Group 1 of Super Six and West Indies will face Rwanda in Group 2.
