Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad-based special CBI judge Parvendra Kumar Sharma’s court on Wednesday sentenced nine policemen, including a retired SO, in the Etah fake encounter killing of a carpenter in 2006.
CBI Special Public Prosecutor Anurag Modi said that the then SO Sidhpura Pawan Singh, the then sub-inspector Shripal Thenua, constables Sarnam Singh, Rajendra Prasad, Mohkam Singh were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and destruction of evidence.

A fine of Rs 33,000 each was imposed on these five, while constables Baldev Prasad, Awadhesh Rawat, Ajay Kumar, Sumer Singh were fined Rs 11,000 each for destroying evidence and sentenced to five years imprisonment.

Carpenter Rajaram was killed in a fake encounter by policemen on August 18, 2006, in Sidhpura police station area of Etah district by calling him a dacoit. There was not a single case registered against him.
The wife of the deceased carpenter had filed an application in the High Court for a CBI inquiry. The case was transferred to the CBI on June 1, 2007 by order of the High Court. On December 22, 2009, the CBI presented a charge sheet against the above on the charges of murder, kidnapping and destruction of evidence. All the above were convicted in the CBI court on Tuesday.
