New Delhi. It was a disappointing night for Team India on Thursday in Adelaide. The team suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup against England. After India’s disappointing performance, the team has been facing criticism from Indian cricket fans. Team veteran former captain Sunil Gavaskar has criticized the “workload management” of the team.
The former India batsman said that Indian cricket needs to move beyond “workload management”, further insisting that players forget this when playing in the Indian Premier League. Talk about workload when you can’t win the World Cup. There have been changes in the team that is going to New Zealand, so how was the work load.
“There is no workload in IPL”
Talking to India 2 Day Group, Sunil Gavaskar said, “You play IPL, play the whole season, there you travel. Only the last IPL was held in 4 centres, rest of the places you keep moving here and there. Is there no workload there? Only when you have to play for India, that too when you go to non-glamorous countries, then that becomes your workload? This thing is wrong.
“Players getting more pampering”
Sunil Gavaskar further said, “Workload and fitness cannot go hand in hand. If you are fit, where is the question of workload? We say in Marathi that we love a little, we should do a little less. We are taking you in the team, we are also giving you a lot of retainer fee. If you are not playing because of workload, then leave the retainer fee as well.
