New Delhi. Former Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson feels that India’s combination for the T20 World Cup 2022 is a bit risky as the team has chosen less fast bowlers for bouncy pitches. The move to keep veteran Mohammed Shami on standby has surprised some cricket experts. The Indian selectors have reposed faith in the Jasprit Bumrah-led quartet along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh.
Talking during the Legends League Cricket (LLC), Johnson said that if you have one all-rounder (fast bowling), two spinners and four fast bowlers in the team then it is a bit risky. But India is looking to play two fast bowlers and one all-rounder (Hardik Pandya) and two spinners in the playing XI. This former left-arm fast bowler said that in Australia you have to keep three fast bowlers in the team. In Perth conditions, four fast bowlers will have to be hired. I think they have planned and picked the team but with just four fast bowlers it can be risky.
On this occasion, Johnson demanded a young man to be the captain of Australia in ODIs. He said that giving Pat Cummins (Test captain) the responsibility of all formats will increase his workload significantly. The name of Glenn Maxwell may be on the mind of the selectors. If you look to the future, Cameron Green would also be a good option. As an all-rounder, however, the workload for him is more than before. Another option is the lack of consistency in Travis Head’s performance.
He said that both David Warner and Steve Smith should not be captains. He can continue to guide the team as before. With him becoming the captain, the discussion on the old stuff (ball tampering issue) will start again and this will affect the reputation of the team.
