New Delhi. These days, there is constant talk about the two old formats of cricket, Test and ODI. The discussion on Test has been going on for a long time. However, the ICC is constantly trying to make it exciting. Since its inception with the World Test Championship, people’s attachment towards it has increased. Former Australia batsman Ian Chappell has given a statement regarding the Test.
Chappell is certain that Test cricket will “not end” in his lifetime but wonders whether the best players will play it in the future as the T20 league is thriving. The former Australian captain feels international cricket faces a challenge to retain players with the fast-growing T20 leagues across the world.
Chappell said, ‘Test cricket will not end in my lifetime. But who will be playing it? This is the biggest question. Will Test cricket be worth watching if your best players are not playing? The answer would probably be ‘no’. Test cricket is a good game but it should be played well.
Chappell also spoke about the issue of Chris Lynn asking Cricket Australia for a no-objection letter (NOC) from Cricket Australia to play in the UAE’s ILT20 league. Lynn has registered himself as a ‘marquee’ player in the league, but he will need a no-objection letter from Cricket Australia (CA) to play in the league. But they may not get it as Australian cricket also organizes its Big Bash League at the same time.
Chappell said that if he had been in Lynn’s place and he had not got the NOC, he would have dragged CA to court.
