New Delhi. Despite all the efforts of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, the England team could not bid farewell to their Test captain Ben Stokes with a victory. In this match played in Durham, South Africa’s team dominated England from the beginning and won the match by 62 runs. South Africa captain Keshav Maharaj won the toss and elected to bat and was proved right by his batsmen Rasi van der Dussen and Aiden Markram and Jaaneman Malan.
Van der Dussen scored a brilliant 133, Markram scored 77 runs and Malan scored 57 runs, thanks to which South Africa scored a mammoth total of 333 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Chasing 334 runs for victory, England’s team started well and Jason Roy and Bairstow shared a 102-run partnership for the first wicket. It seemed that the team would be able to gift Ben Stokes with a win in the last ODI match but after that wickets kept falling at frequent intervals and the team could not even play the full 50 overs.
England’s team could only manage 271 runs thanks to Root’s 83, Bairstow’s 63 and Roy’s 43 and the team suffered another defeat under the captaincy of Jos Buttler. This was the last ODI match of Ben Stokes’ career and the England team wanted to win this match at any cost but their batsmen did not support the team. However, even Ben Stokes could not do much in this last ODI match. His last innings ended on a personal score of just 5 runs.
