Lucknow. Protests broke out in several cities of Uttar Pradesh by Muslims after Friday prayers on Friday to protest against the remarks on the Prophet and demand the arrest of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal. Violent demonstrations took place in Prayagraj, Saharanpur, Deoband, Hathras and Ambedkar Nagar. So far, 136 people have been arrested by the police in the state.
CM Yogi Adityanath has given instructions for strict action against all anti-social elements regarding violent incidents in Uttar Pradesh. In these incidents, the police have arrested 45 from Saharanpur, 37 from Prayagraj, 20 from Hathras, 23 from Ambedkarnagar, seven from Moradabad and four from Firozabad.
ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that 136 people who created nuisance in six districts of the state including Saharanpur, Prayagraj have been arrested so far. He said that all those guilty of disturbing the peace and creating disturbance have been identified. Strict action will be taken against these people. Charges will be registered against them under serious sections. The damage caused to government and private properties will also be recovered from them.
People from the Muslim side pelted stones after Friday prayers in Atala area of Prayagraj, in which many people were injured. The miscreants set fire to the PAC’s truck along with setting a shop and bike ablaze. The policemen present on the spot somehow brought the fire under control. The miscreants also lobbed bombs.
Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to bring the situation under control. The IG and a dozen policemen were injured in stone pelting. The DM present on the spot ordered lathi charge. Forces have been called from all over the zone to control the ruckus. The SPs of both the districts also reached Prayagraj along with dispatching two COs, two inspectors, four inspectors, one hundred soldiers from Pratapgarh and Kaushambi.
Hundreds of people from the Muslim community took out a procession after Friday prayers in the town of Hathras, Purdilnagar. Burned the effigy of Nupur Sharma at Ambedkar Statue intersection on Jalesar Road. The mob pelted stones at the police. A policeman has been injured in this. In Hathras, police have detained eight people who protested and raised slogans without permission.
Stones were pelted on the police after Namaz at Talwapar of Tanda Nagar in Ambedkar Nagar. Dozens of people have been detained here. After Friday prayers at the Mound Wali Masjid in Lucknow, the crowd stood on the platform and raised religious slogans demanding the arrest of Nupur Sharma. The police officers pacified them after persuading them and sent them for home saying strict action.
After prayers in Saharanpur, the crowd reached the clock tower on foot from Jama Masjid and started creating ruckus. When the police returned the crowd, people pelted stones at many shops. In this, a young man was injured by being hit by a stone. The police dispersed the crowd by lathi-charge. Many people have been detained from here.
Some youths raised slogans and protested outside Rashid Masjid in Deoband. At the same time, two people, including the District President of SDPI, have been arrested in Bijnor for inciting people in Najibabad on Thursday night. Nagina Police has also arrested AIMIAM District President and a worker.
In Moradabad, after Juma prayers at Jama Masjid in the afternoon, the crowd gathered at the crossroads demonstrated for about one and a half hours. The police dispersed the crowd with lathis. After this people gathered at Faizganj post and sat on a dharna there. Some people also raised slogans at the residence of SP MP Dr. ST Hasan. The officers explained and returned them.
Markets did not open in Firozabad in Muslim dominated areas from the city to the countryside. The bangle factories also did not work. Police chased away a mob that was trying to take out a procession after prayers from the barbers’ mosque in Shikohabad’s Mohalla Rukanpur. Slogans were raised fiercely at Hajipura, Jatavpuri and Nalband intersections in Firozabad city.
People of Muslim community kept business establishments closed in Ganjdundwara of Kasganj. Pamphlets of those demanding to send Nupur Sharma to jail were pasted at many closed shops in Mainpuri. In Sambhal also, Muslims kept their shops closed. Shops remained closed in Varanasi’s Dal Mandi, Nai Sadak and Madanpura areas.
On Friday, Salman Mian, the national vice president of Jamaat Raza-e-Mustafa, the organization of Dargah Ala Hazrat of Bareilly, gave a memorandum to DM Shivakant Dwivedi demanding action against Nupur Sharma. SM Yasin, the joint secretary of Anjuman Intejamiya Masajid Committee and the main party of the Masjid side in the Gyanvapi case, appealed on Friday that everyone should work together in maintaining harmony.
Earlier on Thursday, he had said that some mischievous elements play with the lives of our people, especially the youth, by inciting them to do irresponsible work. Most of the news on internet media is far from the truth. Keep a distance from it, so that there is peace in the city.
