Malik had told the court that he was not contesting the charges leveled against him, which included sections 16 (terrorism act), 17 (raising funds for terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act) and 20 (terrorist act). The chargesheet was also filed against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, who have been declared absconders in the case.
The accused were charged with illegal activities, criminal conspiracy against the country. The court had earlier on March 16 ordered framing of charges against the accused in the terror funding case. Apart from Hafiz Saeed and Yasin Malik, Shabbir Shah, Masrat Alam have been charged under terror funding in the case and besides Rashid Engineer, Zahoor Ahmed Shah Watali, Bitta Karate, Aftab Ahmed Shah, Naeem Khan, Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Alias Peer Saifullah He was charged with criminal conspiracy against the country, spreading hysteria, and indulging in illegal activities.
It is noteworthy that earlier NIA Special Judge Praveen Singh while hearing the case related to Kashmiri separatists, terrorists and businessmen on March 16 had asked for framing of charges against them. He had said that the statements of the witnesses and the available evidence linking almost all the accused to each other show that all of them were working for the purpose of separating Kashmir from India. For this, terrorists and terrorist organizations were also connected through the guidelines and funding of Pakistan.
