Ashutosh Mishra, Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, posted in Basti, was arrested by the Criminal Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Crime Branch after reaching here on Tuesday in connection with extortion and robbery from Mumbai traders. He is said to be the brother-in-law of the sacked IPS of Mumbai Police, Sairabh Tripathi, wanted in the case.

The Criminal Intelligence Unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch had reached the settlement three days ago. After collecting all the information, this team reached the commercial tax office along with the Kotwali police on Tuesday. Assistant commissioner mobile team Ashutosh Mishra was working in the office, meanwhile the police team caught him. He is a resident of Inderlok Colony of Akbarpur police station area of Ambedkar Nagar district. The police team took him to the Kotwali police station where he was interrogated for two hours about the relationship of sacked IPS Saurabh Tripathi and his involvement in the extortion case from Mumbai businessmen.
Sent on transit remand till April 8
At first, he kept running away from these allegations, but when the team put the facts of his association in front of him, he got trapped. They were arrested and taken to the district hospital, where their medical was done. In the evening, he was presented before CJM Umesh Yadav and sought transit remand. On the other hand, advocate Vijaysen Singh of the accused assistant commissioner opposed this and said that his client is being implicated. The CJM granted the transit remand sought by the Criminal Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Crime Branch till April 8. He will now be produced in the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court No 37 Mumbai.
Case registered at LT Marg police station in Mumbai
A case has been registered against Saurabh Tripathi, the then DCP of Mumbai, under the sections of extortion, robbery, etc., in the LT Marg police station in Mumbai in the case of extortion from the Angadian traders. This case is of December 2021. The Angadiya Association had met the Police Commissioner of Mumbai and accused the DCP of demanding Rs 10 lakh per month to keep the business running. DCP Saurabh Tripathi has been sacked after the investigation found the matter to be true. He has been on the run for a long time. The Criminal Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Crime Branch had contacted Basti Police seeking help in the arrest of Ashutosh Mishra, Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Mobilization Team) in the desired Basti in a case registered at a police station in Mumbai.
