Gorakhpur. On Sunday evening, around 7.30 pm, a youth attacked and injured PAC soldiers guarding the Gorakhnath temple, the apex bench of the Nath sect and the residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with a sharp weapon while raising a religious slogan. After this sensational incident at the main entrance (South Gate) of the temple, there was panic in the temple premises full of devotees.
Both the PAC jawans injured in the attack and the attacking youth, who was injured in an attempt to be caught, have been admitted to BRD Medical College. After apprehension of more people accompanying the youth, a search operation was launched after sealing the Gorakhnath temple.
The 20th battalion of the PAC, engaged in the security of Gorakhnath temple, was at the main entrance in front of the police station on duty of constables Gopal Kumar Gaur and Anil Kumar Paswan of Azamgarh. At around 7.30 pm, a youth coming from Bargadwa side crossing the northern and eastern gates of the temple approached the constable Gopal Kumar posted at the main entrance and started snatching his SLR (self-loading rifle).
Gopal attacked him till the time the attacker took out the dao (sharp weapon) in his waist. Seeing this, constable Anil came, then the attacker hit him on his leg. When other security personnel rushed to nab the attacker, he entered through the entrance, shouting religious slogans. The constables standing ahead Anurag and Anil dropped him with a stick and caught him.
During this, there was panic due to the rumor of firing in the temple. The security personnel restrained him. As soon as the news of the attack on the security personnel spread, the police-administrative officers reached the spot and admitted the injured soldiers to the district hospital after giving first aid at Gorakhnath Hospital. SSP Vipin Tada took the attacker to the district hospital. All were sent from the district hospital to the medical college.
Police have recovered a bag from the spot, in which laptop, PAN and Aadhar card in the name of Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi, March 28 air ticket from Gorakhpur to Delhi and another claim have been found. After the incident, DIG J Ravindra Goud, SSP and ATS inspected the Gorakhnath temple.
The address of Millennium Tower Navi Mumbai is written on the Aadhaar card of arrested attacker Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi. He has done chemical engineering from IIT Bombay in 2015. It was revealed from the PAN that he is a resident of Abbasi Nursing Home premises located at Park Road, Civil Lines, Gorakhpur. After this, ATS reached Ahmed Murtaza’s house and kept interrogating his father Munir till late night.
SSP Gorakhpur Dr. Vipin Tada said that the injured soldiers and the attacker have been admitted to the medical college. The assailant could not be interrogated because of his injuries. The interrogation of the relative of the accused and all aspects related to the incident are being investigated. A case is being registered at Gorakhnath police station.
Said the attacker, wanted someone to shoot me: Ahmed Murtaza told the media before being admitted to the district hospital that his wife had left. The job has been lost. Was bothered by it. Couldn’t sleep for many nights. wanted someone to shoot him. So the policemen were attacked.
