Lucknow. The accused policemen, arrested in the murder case of Kanpur businessman Manish Gupta, appeared before the special CBI court on Saturday through video conferencing from Gorakhpur Jail. Special Judicial Magistrate of CBI Yasha Sharma, while extending the judicial custody of the accused, has now fixed the next hearing of this case on February 14. However, before the due date, the file of this case will be referred to the special CBI court in Delhi. Because according to an order of the Supreme Court, now this case will be tried in the CBI court of Delhi. This information has been given by Manish Gupta’s wife Meenakshi’s advocate KK Shukla. Meenakshi had also filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding the trial of this case in the CBI court of Delhi.
On January 7, the CBI had filed a charge sheet in the special court against six policemen in this case. In this, the then police station in-charge of Ramgarh Tal of Gorakhpur, Jagat Narayan Singh, Inspector Akshay Kumar, Vijay Yadav, Rahul Dubey and chief constable Kamlesh Singh Yadav and constable Prashant Kumar have been accused of murder etc. All these accused policemen are in judicial custody in Gorakhpur jail.
The CBI had filed a charge sheet against the accused under sections 302, 323, 325, 506, 218, 201 read with sections 34, 120B and 149 of the IPC. According to this, Kanpur businessman Manish Gupta was staying with his friends in a hotel under Ramgarh Tal police station in Gorakhpur. On the night of September 27, the accused policemen went to his room. misbehaved with them. Manish opposed it. On this, the accused thrashed him fiercely, due to which he suffered serious injuries and died on the spot.
On September 29, 2021, on the complaint of Manish’s wife Meenakshi Gupta, an FIR was registered in the police station Ramgarh Tal, whose investigation was being done by the SIT of Kanpur on the instructions of the government. But the Chief Minister recommended a CBI inquiry into the incident on the demand of Meenakshi. On November 2, 2021, the CBI started the investigation by registering an FIR in this case. During the investigation, CBI found that Manish died due to beating of the policemen.
