New Delhi. Australia’s legendary spinner Nathan Lyon achieved a special achievement in the Brisbane Test. In Test cricket, he made it to the list of legends by getting the 400th wicket. He became the third Australian bowler to do so and the 17th in the world. He achieved this memorable feat in the first match of the Ashes series against England.
On Saturday 11 December, Australia won the first Ashes series against England by 9 wickets. On the fourth day of the match, the second innings of the English team was reduced to 297 runs and set a target of just 20 runs in front of the hosts. Losing 1 wicket, Australia chased down the target and took a 1-0 lead in the series. Australia had scored 425 runs in the first innings while England were bundled out for 147 runs.
On the third day of the Brisbane Test, England made a comeback on the basis of the partnership of captain Joe Root and David Malan. When the day’s play was over, both the batsmen were on their way to a century. Route 86 while Malan returned unbeaten after playing an innings of 80 runs. On the fourth day, Lyon broke the pair by dismissing Malan for 82 runs and after that the English team was disintegrated. Lyon then took the wickets of Ollie Robinson, Ollie Pope and Mark Wood. In the second innings, he took four wickets for 91 runs.
Before entering this match, this spinner had 399 Test wickets to his name. He could not get a single wicket in the first innings. Malan’s wicket on the fourth day in the second innings was his 400th Test wicket. Coming to play the 101st Test, this stalwart made his place in the list of legends by completing his 400th Test wicket. Shane Warne has taken the most Test wickets for Australia with 708 wickets. After this comes the name of Glenn McGrath, who took 563 wickets. Lyon has come third in the list.
