Mathura. In a joint operation in Mathura district, about 1,589 stolen mobile phones worth more than Rs 1.5 crore have been recovered from five people. The operation was carried out on Thursday night. The phone was among 8,990 phones that were looted from a truck on the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh border in early October. These mobile phones were being sent to Bengaluru from a factory in Noida.
According to police, the accused in two vehicles were stopped near Raipura Jat underpass in Farah police station area while they were on their way to Agra to locate the looted mobile phones.
Teams from Farah Police Station, Surveillance, SWAT, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Special Task Force (STF) jointly carried out the operation on a tip-off.
Superintendent of Police (Municipal) Martad Prakash Singh told reporters that 1,589 stolen mobile phones were recovered and the five accused were arrested. The recovered phone is worth Rs 1.5 crore.
The accused have been identified as Rahul alias Aamir Khan of Mathura and Shahid, Azharuddin, Sameer and Ajmal of Noonh district of Haryana.
Earlier, 113 stolen mobile phones worth Rs 11.3 lakh were recovered from eight accused.
