Prayagraj. The Allahabad High Court has prohibited anyone from interfering in the married life of adult couples of opposite religions and directed the Gorakhpur Police to protect them. The court has said that even their parents do not have the right to interfere in the married life of both.
Right of adult to choose life partner of his choice
The High Court said that despite being from opposite religion, adult has the right to choose the life partner of his choice. No one has the right to object to their marital relationship. This order has been given by a division bench of Justice MK Gupta and Justice Deepak Verma on the petition of Shifa Hasan and others. The petitioner Shifa Hasan has married a Hindu boy out of love and has sought permission from the District Magistrate of Gorakhpur to convert a Muslim to Hinduism.
Seeing the threat to life, pleaded for security
The District Magistrate has sought a report from the police station. It was told in the police report that the boy’s father is not agreeable to the marriage but the mother is ready to adopt. Both the girl’s parents do not agree. Seeing the threat to life, the couple has taken refuge in the High Court and sought protection. Hearing his petition, the High Court said that despite being from the opposite religion, an adult has the right to choose a life partner of his choice. No one has the right to object to their marital relationship. Along with this, the High Court has also directed the Gorakhpur district police to protect this adult couple. It is worth mentioning that many years ago the order has been issued from the court that a child boy or girl has the right to marry of his choice, even if he chooses a life partner of opposite religion and community and the police should protect him. But despite this, the society still tries to impose its choice on the adults and the police also remain indifferent.
