Prayagraj. The Allahabad High Court has taken a tough stand in the alleged suicide case of a student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Mainpuri. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice MN Bhandari and Justice AK Ojha, on a PIL filed by social activist Mahendra Pratap Singh, ordered Director General of Police (DGP) Mukul Goel to stay in Prayagraj for a day, saying that he and the SIT at 10 am on Thursday, September 16 Members should be present with complete information.
During the hearing of the case on Wednesday, DGP Mukul Goyal was also summoned. The High Court asked him that you have read the FIR. If you haven’t read it, read it here. The court expressed displeasure when the DGP read the FIR and could not give a satisfactory answer even after that. The bench said that the DGP does not even know the background of the case. In such a situation, the court has no option but to postpone the hearing till tomorrow. The court has asked that what action was taken on the police who are investigating? SP Mainpuri retired six months ago, why departmental disciplinary proceedings could not be completed against him. The court has asked senior advocate Amarendra Nath Singh to represent the petitioner.
The SP should have been sacked: The Bench made a sharp remark that instead of being transferred, the SP should have been dismissed or forcibly retired. The court saw the video recording of the girl’s panchnama. Said that almost three months have passed since the FIR was registered and the police could not even take the statement of the accused.
Expressed suspicion of tampering in post-mortem: The Bench said that after seeing the post-mortem report, it appears that it has been tampered with. The hanging marks around the neck are raising suspicion. Referring to changing the post-mortem report by taking money in a case of Rajasthan, it is feared that it is possible in this case as well. The court questioned that if this had happened to the daughter of a police officer, what would have happened? The court asked the DGP to take action, otherwise the court would take strict action.
This is the case: A teenager from Mainpuri was a student of class 11 in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bhogaon. On September 16, 2019, the girl’s body was found hanging on a noose in the hostel room. The relative had filed a rape and murder report. The relative of the girl student had demanded a CBI inquiry saying that she did not trust the police investigation. He also went on a hunger strike for this. Two months later, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the chairmanship of IG Kanpur Mohit Agarwal, in which SP Mainpuri and CO STF were also included. The SIT in its interim report has treated the incident as a suicide.
