Prayagraj. The Allahabad High Court on Thursday took a major decision in the midst of the ongoing dispute over the land of Kashi Vishweshwar Nath Temple and Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi. Court restrains ASI from conducting survey of Gyanvapi. The matter was heard by a single bench of Justice Prakash Pandiya.
Justice Prakash Pandiya has directed the ASI to stop the survey. The Allahabad High Court has restrained the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from conducting the survey of Gyanvapi. The lower court had asked the SSI to conduct a survey and decide whether it is a Kashi Vishwanath temple or not. The High Court has stayed the hearing in the Varanasi District Court.
In the last hearing, the court had reserved the decision. The Varanasi court had given permission for the archaeological survey of the mosque. The Muslim party challenged the court’s decision in the High Court. The petition was filed by the Masjid Arrangement Committee, Sunni Central Waqf Board. The Allahabad High Court had on Tuesday reserved its verdict in the famous Kashi Vishweshwar Nath Temple and Gyanvapi Masjid dispute case. In this dispute the order of the civil judge was challenged. Aurangzeb had destroyed the temple
In the petition filed in the court, there is an allegation of ignoring the order of the Place of Worship (Special Provisions) Act 1991. According to the temple side, in 1664, the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb destroyed the temple and built a mosque on the remains.
