Security arrangements are being tightened around all the development block headquarters for the polling to be held on Saturday. In the nominations held on Thursday, a total of 1778 nominations were received for 825 block head posts in 75 districts of the state. Of these, 68 nominations were rejected during scrutiny. After this a total of 1710 candidates were left. On the day of withdrawal of nominations on Friday, a total of 187 candidates withdrew their nominations. He was declared victorious unopposed as only one candidate was left for 349 posts. Now for the remaining 476 posts, voting should be conducted on Saturday.
There are total 75852 posts of Kshetra Panchayat members in 825 blocks of the state. The same Kshetra Panchayat members will vote for electing any one Kshetra Panchayat member from amongst themselves as their Block Pramukh. Due to non completion of the tenure of the Kshetra Panchayat of Mujehna block of Gonda district, the election of the block chief is not being held here.
