Ayodhya. On Friday afternoon, 12 people who came to visit Ayodhya Dham from Agra for darshan and worship drowned in the Saryu river located at Guptar Ghat. Nine people have been pulled out of the river in a joint rescue operation by police, PAC and local divers. Out of this, the death of six has been confirmed while three are still said to be missing. The search operation is on to find the missing people.
Satish (40), Naman (07), Ashok (65), Aarti (35), Dhairya (07), Gauri (28), Priyanshi (16), Rajkumari (61), residents of A block Shastripuram of Sikandra police station area of Agra Julie (39), Sarthak (16), Sita alias Damini (35), Drishti (04), Lalit (40), Pankaj (25) and Shruti (20) had come to Ayodhya Dham. According to a member of the family, Satish, a woman started drowning at about one o’clock in the afternoon at the Kacha Ghat of the river.
While saving the woman, 12 family members drowned in the river. On this information, District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Jha, PAC DIG Anil Kumar, SSP Shailesh Kumar Pandey and many senior officers reached the spot. After this the rescue operation started. During this, Lalit, Pankaj, Shruti, Drishti, Sita and Rajkumari, who were taken out of the river, were declared dead by the doctors. District Magistrate Jha said that the NDRF team has been called to search for the missing people. Apart from this, 20 teams have been deployed at the local level which are engaged in the search for the missing people.
