London. Ahead of the five-match Test series against India starting on August 4, England Test captain Joe Root has said that he is hopeful that the controversial rest and rotation policy can be put back. The rest and rotation policy was heavily scrutinized earlier this year during the series against India and England. After a five-match Test series against India, England will play a five-match series against Australia in the Ashes series from December 8 later this year.
Joe Root was quoted as saying by Cricinfo, “We are now coming to a time where rest and rotation policy is put behind us. Hopefully, if everyone is fit, we will have the best of our team available, whose Have to follow. It’s really exciting and I’m very looking forward to it. We have ten very tough Test matches against two great opponents, but it’s a great opportunity for us to play some strong cricket and if everyone is fit and If available, we will have a good team ourselves.”
Root also said that he hopes to field the best possible XI in the series against India and Australia. He also revealed that he was saddened by England not reaching the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). He said, “I think, in the next five Tests, we will try to feed our strongest team or we will have the strongest team available for those games. This is, I guess, what you do for it: To prepare myself for this lead-in and especially for the Ashes. To make sure everyone is at their peak, and these are big matches.”
Regarding the WTC Finals, Joe Root said, “Watching the WTC Finals and not being a part of it, it makes you want to be a part of that kind of special thing. We have a chance now than to be out for the first time.” Let me go a little further and better. I am hoping the players are looking forward to a good start with the entire team.” Let us tell you that England had played and won the most matches in the last WTC cycle, but due to the win percentage, the team was at number three.
