Harare Zimbabwe cricket is in a bad shape. This can be gauged from the fact that in today’s era, players of an international team do not have the shoes to wear. To catch the eye of the crisis-ridden Zimbabwean cricket team and batsman Ryan Burl posted a photo of the torn shoes and requested sponsorship of the national team. Whether the team will still find a sponsor or not, but the good thing is that a sports company has come forward to help Burl.
Burley tweeted, “Is there a possibility that we get a sponsor so that we don’t have to stick our shoes after every series.” He made this tweet at a time when some cricket boards are earning millions from sponsorship alone. Puma cricket came forward with its support from Burl. Replying to his tweet, Puma Cricket wrote, “Now it’s time to keep the glue away, we’ll cover you.”
The 27-year-old left-handed middle order batsman has played three Tests, 18 ODIs and 25 T20 Internationals. He tweeted photos of his shoes, glue and some tools to fix it. Zimbabwe was given ODI status before the 1983 World Cup and Test status in 1992. The country has been struggling in international cricket for a long time. Flower Brothers – Cricketers such as Andy and Grant Flower, Alistair Campbell, Dave Houghton, Heath Streak and Neil Johnson were never born again who had some success representing the African country.
The ICC suspended the country’s cricket board in 2019 due to government interference. So the team did not play in the T20 World Cup qualifier at the end of that year. However, Zimbabwe cricket was later reinstated. Recently, the visiting Pakistan team made a clean sweep of the two-match Test series and won the T20 series 2–1.
