The last Somvati of Samvat 2077 is Amavasya Udaya Tithi. That is why all the devotees will receive Sakya Punya Kala till 12 noon and the next day till 6 in the morning. Jyotishacharya Pandit Shakti Dhar Sharma Shastri said that the great importance of Sumati Amavasya has been told in Skanda Purana. Because on this day the Sun and the Moon will be on the same zodiac ie Pisces, which is owned by Jupiter. Therefore, every devotee who takes a bath on this day for the desire to attain virtue, receives the same fruits as performing several thousand Ashwamedha Yagyas. This is also described in the Shiva Purana.
Pandit Shaktidhar Sharma Shastri explains that one scientific reason behind this is that due to the Sun and Moon being together, the moon does not get the monsoon on Earth, hence the maximum amount of oxygen in the Ganges water. That is why a person who takes a bath or touches the Ganges water, achieves it, he gets the benefit of all virtue. Told that the Amavasya this year, Somavati Amavasya, is the last Amavasya of the year. According to Skanda Purana and Shiva Purana, this Somavati Amavasya is considered to be especially virtuous for the work done for the ancestors done for the happiness of the fathers. Whoever donates pindadan tarpan etc. towards their fathers on this day. His father is pleased with him and he has no hindrance in life in his works and he gets the benefit of all the pleasures of life. Along with this, he receives blessings of fathers.
