Lucknow. Authorities have put an end to the speculation that a special police team has been sent to bring Bahubali Mukhtar Ansari, who is lodged in Ropar Jail, Punjab, to Uttar Pradesh. It is the Punjab Police that will get Mukhtar admitted to the Banda jail. The Banda jail administration has also completed its preparations regarding this.
Additional security arrangements were started in Banda Jail only after the Supreme Court ordered UP’s Bahubali leader Mukhtar Ansari to be sent to Uttar Pradesh. Sources say that there will be a tight security cordon around the jail. Prison headquarters officials say that Mukhtar will be kept in a separate cell in the jail here, where there will be very tight security arrangements. However, when the Punjab Police will come with Mukhtar, it is not clear yet. ADG law and order Prashant Kumar says that the Punjab Police has not yet given any information to bring Mukhtar Ansari to UP.
On March 26, the Supreme Court had ordered the Punjab government to hand over the accused Bahubali MLA Mukhtar Ansari to the Uttar Pradesh government in two weeks in serious cases. Mukhtar Ansari, a BSP MLA from Mau, has been detained in Punjab’s Ropar jail for nearly two years in a case of extortion of lakhs. Mukhtar was detained in Banda jail here when he was taken from UP.
According to a senior official, technically Punjab police will get Mukhtar Ansari lodged in Banda jail, after which Mukhtar will be produced in the MP MLA Special Court at Prayagraj. Later, in which jail Mukhtar will be kept, it will be decided by the court. Mukhtar’s case can also be heard from Banda jail through video conferencing due to Corona infection.
It is noteworthy that Mukhtar Ansari is accused in many other serious cases including the murder recorded in Uttar Pradesh, which is under trial. In these cases, Mukhtar has to be produced in the court. Due to this, the state government had approached the Supreme Court to send Mukhtar Ansari from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh.
