The deceased has been identified as Ziauddin, a resident of a village in Azamgarh. He was allegedly picked up by the Ambedkar Nagar SWAT team when he went to visit his relatives last week. The family of the deceased is alleged to have died due to police torture.
An FIR has been registered against Swat team in-charge Devendra Pal Singh and seven other policemen under sections 302 and 364 of the IPC at Akbarpur police station in Ambedkarnagar.
Shahabuddin, the deceased’s brother, told reporters, “Ziauddin had gone to meet some relatives on Wednesday and was supposed to come back on Thursday, but he did not come. We searched for him but could not find him. The brother has claimed that when he saw Ziauddin’s body, he had multiple injuries.
