Dehradun. The government set a target of connecting all the villages of Uttarakhand by road, so that the pace of development in the villages should pick up. This will speed up tourism by developing the evacuated villages as Ghost Villages and villagers can also be encouraged for reverse migration. In this episode, a detailed action plan was made. In this, the villages were categorized into two categories. The villages to be developed from tourism point of view were marked separately and the remaining villages were separated. Despite this, the situation is still today, out of the total 15745 revenue villages in Uttarakhand, 2551 revenue villages are still untouched by road. Out of these, roads have been approved for 1813 villages, but work is awaiting to start. Ironically, action is still being taken at various levels to provide road to 738 villages.
Corrupt workers of departments
The predecessor government decided to show the way out to corrupt and incompetent personnel. Heads of departments were given the responsibility that a list of such personnel above 50 years of age be prepared and handed over to the government. The motive is that those who have serious allegations and history is not right, can be given compulsory retirement. According to the category of employees, committees were asked to form at the department and government level. As soon as the government got the order, the work of making lists started in the departments, but then it could not move forward. When the information was not received from the departments for a long time, the Personnel Department then sent a reminder to all the departments. The answer has not been found yet. Now that the leadership has changed in the state, the eyes are on how the new government moves forward in this matter.
The oldest travel route of Chardham
The Char Dham of Uttarakhand has been the center of faith for crores of devotees from India and abroad. The Chardham yatra is believed to have been going on for centuries. The department believes that Chardham may possibly be the oldest travel route in the country. To prove this, the department also decided to seek cooperation from common citizens. It was said that after extensive publicity, everyone will be asked for documents, photographs or manuscripts related to it, which mention the travel route so that it can be helped to prove the oldest route. It was planned that the department would also reward those who gave such documents. It was hoped that the general public would get a good response. The department sought documents from everyone through advertisements and information, but it did not succeed as expected. Neither the department provided any documents to anyone nor was contacted.
Revenue village stuck in census
To improve the structure of the administrative units of the state, a plan was prepared to construct a new revenue village. It was hoped that with the formation of new revenue villages, they will get the benefit of various development schemes run by the central and state government. There will be development in rural areas and local residents will also be financially strong. The scheme was also implemented in 2015. Due to the slow pace of government machinery, a total of 39 revenue villages were formed in the last six years. In 2018, it was decided to create 24 new revenue villages. For this, the state government set up committees in districts and tehsils. The committees were asked to ask for proposals from all areas. Meanwhile, the Center sent a letter clarifying that now only after the 2021 census, new villages will be formed. Due to this, the whole exercise went into cold storage.
