Lucknow. In view of the three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council i.e. UP Board examinations are scheduled to be postponed. Pre-announced program exams starting 24 April can now take place from the first week of May.
The State Election Commission is set to issue notification of the election on March 27, just before Holi for the three-tier panchayat election. The State Election Commission can complete the voting process by April 30 and conduct the counting of votes in May 3-4. In the state, when the program of the UP Board’s high school and intermediate examinations was announced from April 24 to May 12. At that time, the State Election Commission was also proposed to complete the voting process in four phases by April 23. The state government is completing the reservation process afresh on the instructions of the Lucknow bench of the High Court to issue the reservation again on wrong reservation in panchayats. In such a situation, with the completion of the reservation process on March 27, the commission is also ready to issue notification of the election.
Sources in the commission say that it needs 42 days to formally conduct the elections with the notification being issued on March 27, just before Holi. There will be 42 days time for all the district-wise elections to be held simultaneously in four phases, with a week’s time for campaigning in each phase. In such a situation, the commission wants the board examinations to be postponed by the first week of May, so that counting of votes etc. can be done before that.
Board exams will no longer be held from April 24: Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Dinesh Sharma, who is also responsible for secondary education, told in a conversation with ‘Dainik Jagran’ that the board examinations will be conducted only after the three-tier panchayat elections. In such a situation, the board examinations will no longer be held from April 24. Regarding the new dates, Dr. Sharma said that it will be decided according to the schedule of the panchayat elections. According to sources, the officials of the Secondary Education Department are not in favor of postponing the examinations so that the results can be declared around June 10. Since the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations are starting from May 4, it is believed that the UP Board examinations may also start from May 3-4.
Considering to extend the examinations by one week: Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat Raj Manoj Kumar Singh says that in view of the Panchayat elections, the board examinations are being considered for a week. The North State Election Commission believes that if we get the time till April 30, we will complete the four-phase voting process. The counting of votes can be held on May 3-4. It is noteworthy that according to the order of the High Court, the Commission has to hold the election of the four posts of panchayats to be elected by the public by 10 May.
State Election Commissioner meets Chief Minister: In view of the three-tier panchayat elections, State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar has met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Commissioner apprised the Chief Minister about preparations for free and fair elections. The commissioner spoke to the Chief Minister about completing the process of reservation of posts before Holi, so that the commission can also issue notification of the election before Holi. It is noteworthy that the Election Commission can issue notification of the election program only after the state government gets the green signal for the proposed election program.
