Haldwani: Summer season and fire season has started. In such a situation, the need of water is the most to quench the thirst of wildlife along with wildfires. In this case, the Fatehpur range of the forest department is working better. A total of 19 ponds have been built in the division. There is no such artificial pond in any range of Terai. The special thing is that in order to quench the thirst of elephants, tigers and guldars, water is drawn through pipes from a donkey in a forest five km away in two ponds. Whereas in 17 other ponds, water is collected from the tanker as soon as the summer starts.
The Terai forests are home to large numbers of wildlife. But wildlife populations often turn to the area in search of water and food. In such a situation, a new challenge arises from the forest department to the villagers. During the human-wildlife conflict, the department also has to bear the indignation of the people. In view of this, the number of ponds in Fatehpur range has been increased to 19 in the last three years. Ponds with storage capacity of ten thousand to one lakh liters of water will also be found in the forest of the range. Ranger KL Arya told that two big ponds were built recently. The patrolman keeps an eye on these. If the water runs out, the help of a tanker is also taken.
