In March 2020, after Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP, 25 Congress MLAs resigned from the state assembly. Following the floor test order, Chief Minister Kamal Nath resigned before proving majority in the House. After this, the Congress government was out of power. At the same time, in July 2019, the Congress was shocked when 17 MLAs of Congress-JDS alliance resigned. When his coalition government with the JDS in Karnataka failed to prove a vote of confidence in the House. The party blamed the treachery of the MLAs for this.
