New Delhi. The most expensive 10 players sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction held at a hotel in Chennai is worth Rs 99 crore. This is perhaps the first time in the history of IPL when the top 10 players sold in the auction cost 99 crores. The highest price among them is South African allrounder Chris Maurice. He has been bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 16 crore 25 lakh.
This is the first time in the history of IPL’s 14-year auction that such a player has received such a price. Before him, this record was in the name of Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who had won 16 crores in the auction. However, more than that salary, Indian captain Virat Kohli gets for one season of IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli gets a total of Rs 17 crore from RCB for one season.
For the 14th season of IPL, only two Indian players are among the 10 most expensive players sold in the auction. The surprising thing is that both these players are still uncapped i.e. they have not got a chance to play for the Indian team. All-rounder Krishnappa Gautam and all-rounder Shah Rukh Khan have received a hefty amount as an Indian in the IPL auction. K Gautam has received 9 crore 25 lakh from CSK, while Shah Rukh Khan has been bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 5 crore 25 lakh.
