Beijing There have been strong signs of ending the tension situation between India and China over the last nine months on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Both countries have begun the process of withdrawing their troops from the front line of the Pangong Lake area on the LAC. China’s Defense Ministry says that the withdrawal of military has started on Wednesday (February 10, 2021) as agreed between the two countries. India has not yet officially confirmed this. However, sources said that the situation is moving in a positive direction.
Given the current session of the House, the government is probably avoiding any kind of statement outside. It is believed that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh himself will make the House aware of this soon. A brief statement was released on Wednesday afternoon from Wu Shian, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of Defense. Accordingly, the withdrawal of troops from Pangong Hunan and North East (LAC areas adjoining East Ladakh in India) on February 10, based on the agreement reached during the 9th round of military commander level of India and China, February 10. Has started in a systematic way.
All media houses of the Chinese government started showing this news in a matter of minutes. However, the day before, there was a discussion between the two countries about cooperation on the agenda of the UN Security Council. The conversation was seen as a sign of the end of tension. After the Chinese incursion on the LAC, there has been no meeting on any issue other than the situation on the border between the two countries. India has not commented officially on this, but government officials have said that the situation is positive. India will put forward its strategy only after first thoroughly examining China’s behavior. However, the withdrawal has started and the situation needs to be monitored very carefully. It will take time to move the situation on LAC to the position before May 2020. Despite the withdrawal process, there will be no shortage of promptness in the Indian Army.
Soldiers will be removed from strong targets at the earliest
The situation is still unclear about the locations on which the Indian troops have strengthened their positions, considered strategically important. Probably the return from these locations will be at the end. According to unconfirmed information, both China and India are losing their big weapons. This was agreed to last month when the military commanders of both countries held a 16-hour-long discussion. The forces of the two countries entrusted the commanders to the local commanders to formulate a strategy to land the agreement between the military commanders. There is also a consensus in this that the weapons deployed face to face should be brought back first.
Infiltration took place in the first week of May
Chinese troops infiltrated the LAC in the first week of May, 2020. Then on June 15, 2020, there was a violent clash between the soldiers of the two countries in the same area, in which 20 Indian soldiers received gallantry. Many Chinese soldiers were also killed in this clash but the Chinese government never made their numbers public. After this bloody clash, relations between the two countries deteriorated significantly. On the one hand, in view of China’s aggressive attitude, India not only deployed large-scale troops on the LAC but also started taking policy decisions to close the doors of the Indian market to Chinese companies. Hundreds of Chinese companies in the information technology sector have also been banned.
Dialogue continued despite tension
After the Chinese incursion, India has also started the process of strengthening its strategic alliances with the US and other countries. However, despite the escalation of tension, the dialogue process continued in both countries. Nine rounds of military commander-level talks have been held to reduce tension, while five rounds of talks have also been held at the foreign ministry level. At the same time there were bilateral talks between the Defense Ministers and Foreign Ministers of the two countries.
