Melbourne | Just a day after postponing his tour of South Africa, Cricket Australia (CA) interim CEO Nick Hockley confirmed that he had offered South Africa to visit Australia for the Test series, but Cricket South Africa (CSA) turned it down. Australia postponed its next tour of South Africa on Tuesday in view of concerns over a coronavirus epidemic. The postponement of the South Africa tour has come as a major setback to Australia’s hopes of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship.
Australia were scheduled to visit South Africa later this month for a three-match Test series but Hawkley said the tour to South Africa was risky and that it was ‘unacceptable’. The CSA has expressed disappointment after Australia canceled the tour.
“We are working closely with Cricket South Africa and we have a decision on last night. So we will work in the coming weeks and months when we are able to remodel the series,” Cricinfo quoted Hockel Can. We had offered to host this series. But the CSA made it clear that they had received several other commitments as well and that was not possible under the quarantine period. ”
He said, “We did not explore coastal locations in too many details. If you think of a neutral, the question is that there are a lot of challenges in different jurisdictions. So of course we made a formal offer to the host and CSA , Which we fully respect. His position is very clear and we have continued to work as hard as possible to keep it going. ”
Hawkley said, “I think we gave ourselves every chance and we couldn’t leave it after that. But in the end what was now a residual risk, the implication if we’re likely to be positive, which means we have There was no other option. ”
Earlier, England had also canceled their tour of South Africa. Australia had earlier canceled its tour of Bangladesh. New dates for Australia’s tour of South Africa and Bangladesh have not been announced yet.
