Gurugram Three days ago, an association of farmers opposing the new agricultural laws broke barricades on the Haryana-Rajasthan border and entered Rewari district of Haryana. Now they can enter Gurugram. A group of agitating farmers from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan made another attempt to move towards the national capital on Sunday evening. This led to a clash with the police near Sanghwadi village in Rewari, about 17 km from Gurugram.
The Haryana Police tried to stop him using water cannons and teargas as his leaders urged him not to go towards the national capital.
According to the police, the farmers had tried to break the barricade around six and a half hours through about 50 tractors, but were stopped.
“We did not resort to lathicharge to prevent them from breaking the barricades, but we had to use water cannons and teargas shells to stop them,” the police said.
However, it is expected that the farmer may enter Gurugram in the next few days.
In view of such efforts, the Gurugram police have beefed up their security across the Gurugram-Rewari border and heavy police forces have been deployed to prevent farmers from entering Gurugram.
Several police personnel, including additional forces with anti-riot equipment along the Gurugram-Rewari border, have been deployed to intercept farmers entering Gurugram. DCP (Headquarters) Aastha Modi said, as of now no farmer group has entered Gurugram.
However, the police in Rewari have managed to stop the farmers near Sanghwadi village in Rewari.
