Bengaluru Chief Minister of Karnataka B.S. Yeddyurappa said on Thursday that BJP-backed candidates had won 60 percent of the seats in the local body elections held in the state.
According to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its supporting candidates have won 29,478 seats, while the Congress claims that its supporting candidates have won 24,560 seats. JD (S) candidates have won 15,825 panchayat seats.
Yeddyurappa said in the press conference, BJP captured 3,600 gram panchayats. The overwhelming victory of BJP-backed candidates in the state’s panchayat elections is a testimony to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the unwavering faith of the people in his development agenda and the party’s commitment to village development and Antyodaya.
He said that 60 percent seats were won by BJP-backed candidates.
Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kumar Katil said that his party won maximum seats. He attributed this to various party strategies.
At the same time, senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah said that rural India is disappointed with the policies implemented by the BJP. He claimed, farmers are against agricultural laws and used gram panchayat elections to teach a lesson to the BJP. Reports said that the Congress-backed candidates are winning in Karnataka.
Siddaramaiah said, Congress has always stood firmly with farmers and rural India. This has increased the confidence of the people and continues our winning tradition.
Let us know that late night on Thursday, the Karnataka State Election Commission announced the results for the remaining 36,781 seats, while on Wednesday, the results were announced for 54,041 seats in 5,728 gram panchayats.
The counting of votes was delayed due to the use of ballot papers in places other than Bidar district. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) were used for the first time as a pilot project in Bidar.
The counting of votes for the Karnataka Gram Panchayat Election 2020 took place at 226 centers and the results were declared late at night.
Elections were held on December 22 and December 27 for 82,616 seats in 5,728 gram panchayats in 226 talukas of Karnataka.
