Panaji. The Congress tried to find out the reasons behind the defeat in the Goa District Panchayat elections. Congress workers told AICC leader Dinesh Gundu Rao that the Congress lost the district panchayat elections due to promises of government jobs made by the ruling BJP and vote share due to the Aam Aadmi Party. Rao is on a visit to Goa to assess the reasons for loss to the party in the district panchayat elections. Speaking to reporters after meeting Rao, three-time Congress MLA Alexo Reginaldo said that the party’s top leadership should be held accountable for the loss, but the promises of government jobs should also be listed, which in the election This is one of the reasons for the defeat of Congress.
Reginaldo claimed that one of the reasons for the outcome in favor of Pramod Sawant government was that the jobs were promised. Apart from this, the government released government bailouts and allowances just before the election after putting a stop to these payments months ago.
Rao is the secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), in charge of the party’s Goa affairs.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced a bonus of 10,000 government jobs in November, exactly one month before the district panchayat elections, for which the recruitments would begin in January 2021.
Of the 38 seats Congress contested in the district panchayat elections of December 12, it could win only four seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa earned a modest profit in South Goa.
Although the AAP failed to win a single seat in the 2017 assembly elections, its candidates damaged the Congress’ prospects in several seats by splitting minority votes.
According to North Goa Congress District President Vijay Bhike, the AAP factor affected the performance of the Congress. He said that the Congress was affected by AAP’s plunge. Vijay described AAP as a vote-cutting party and said that he is in Goa politics only to cut votes and in this way he is helping BJP.
