Patna. Protests erupted in his own party demanding Congress legislature party leader Ajit Sharma, who was part of the grand alliance of opposition parties in Bihar, to abolish the liquor ban law in Bihar. Kadwa Congress MLA Shakeel Ahmed stood up against his demand. After this, Congress state president Madan Mohan Jha even made a demand to call an all-party meeting, due to which differences emerged in the party itself. Congress MLA Ajit Sharma wrote a letter to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar demanding the abolition of the liquor ban law. In a letter written three days ago, Sharma said, “Liquor ban is a complete failure. The supply of illegal counterfeit liquor from other states is deteriorating people’s health.”
Sharma admitted that in 2016, when liquor prohibition was implemented in the state, Congress was involved in that government. The Congress also supported. But, now it seems that this law has not succeeded in its purpose. He made two suggestions that the prices of liquor should be increased and the money earned from it should be spent on development schemes.
After this statement of Sharma, his own party MLA Shakeel Ahmed has rejected the demand of the MLA leader Ajit Sharma to remove liquor ban. He has said that this is not the opinion of the party, it may be his personal opinion.
He said, the prohibition law was enforced with the consent of everyone. Congress was also involved in the Nitish government of the Grand Alliance at that time. There may be a demand for strict enforcement of the law, but the demand to abolish the law is not valid.
Here, Congress state president Madan Mohan Jha has called for an all-party meeting for this. He said that four years have passed since the prohibition of liquor law has been implemented, hence, there should be a review on it. He said that the government should call an all-party meeting for this.
However, a new debate has begun in the state over the demand of Congress Legislature Party leader Sharma to end liquor ban. Now we have to see what the government decides.
