new Delhi. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved setting up a Wi-Fi network for public use without license fee under public Wi-Fi access network interface or PM-Vani. The move aims to promote the expansion of public Wi-Fi networks in the country.
In other decisions, the Cabinet also approved the provision of submarine optical fiber cable connectivity between the mainland (Kochi) and the Lakshadweep Islands.
In addition, the cabinet also approved the USOF scheme to provide mobile coverage in two districts of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam under the Comprehensive Telecom Development Plan for the North-Eastern Region.
The project will provide mobile coverage to 2,374 uncovered villages.
